A Review of the South Gulf Cove Waterways, Port Charlotte Florida
Sometimes people are reluctant to purchase waterfront property where they will have to lock through to gain access to a major waterway. While I can not speak for all areas and lock systems, I feel very comfortable saying that the lock in the South Gulf Cove waterways is quick and easy. It can be operated by a single person either manually or by using your remote. One of the wonderful features that the lock provides for the residents of South Gulf Cove is a controlled water depth. Residents here are not at the mercy of negative winter tides and enjoy a consistent water depth of 5-6’ in the canals all year. When you are on the north side of Calumet or the south side of Appleton, it is sailboat water with no bridges. When you are on powerboat water, the bridges offer 9’-10’ clearance. Since the canals are minimum wake, your location within the community will determine how long it takes you to get to the open water of the Interceptor Waterway. The canals are wide and lead to the Interceptor Waterway that runs the entire length of the community. The water is brackish and home to many species of fish including redfish, snook, trout, ladyfish, sheepshead, snapper as well as some decent sized tarpon and large mouth bass. Blue crabs are very big and abundant here as well. If you are new to the area or considering the waterfront here, please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am always happy to help.

South Gulf Cove it is a waterfront community located in Port Charlotte, FL between Sarasota and Fort Myers on Florida’s west coast. It is approximately 5 air miles from the Gulf of Mexico. It feels country, but you are close to everyday life conveniences. Malls and medical facilities are less than 15 minutes away. 10 minutes to the Charlotte County Sports Complex, home of the spring training camp for the Tampa Bay Rays and home to the Stone Crabs.
