For those of you who are not familiar with South Gulf Cove it is a waterfront community located south of Sarasota Florida on the west coast of Florida. It is approximately 5 air miles from the Gulf of Mexico.
Consisting of 15,000 homesites with 55 miles of canals that lead to the Gulf of Mexico, South Gulf Cove contains 1/3 of all the Gulf Access canals in Charlotte county.

It is an automatic lock that can be opened manually. It can be operated with only 1 person on the boat and offers quick and easy passage.
The canals are wide and have good depth. The water is brackish and is the home to many species of fish including redfish, snook, trout, ladyfish, sheepshead, snapper as well as some decent sized tarpon and large mouth bass. Blue crab are very big and are abundant.
If you are on the north side of Calumet or the south side of Appleton it is sailboat water with no bridges. If you are on powerboat water the bridges offer 9’-10’ clearance. Since the canals are minimum wake, depending where you are at in the community will determine how long it takes you to get to the open water of the Interceptor Waterway.
There are homesites in the community that have a concrete seawall and homesites that do not. The community consists mainly of newer homes and currently there are approximately 100 new homes under construction. There is central sewer as well as central water available to every homesite in the community.
One of the things that make this community so attractive is the location. It has a rural feel to it but grocery stores are 5 minutes away, Boca Grande as well as Englewood beach, which are some of the finest beaches in Florida are less than 20 minutes away. Malls, medical facilities less than 15 minutes away. 10 minutes to the Charlotte Sports Complex, spring training camp for the Tampa Rays and home to the Stone Crabs. There are a dozen great golf courses, miles of bike trails and world class fishing in the immediate area. Although offering a rural setting it is adjacent to shopping and area attractions.
